History
The Willowbrook story began with a vacant lot bearing the sign "future school site." Residents made the decision to move to the newly developed subdivision beginning in 1976. With the dedication and determination of the executive of the Willowbrook Community Association and the parents in the area to get approval for the neighborhood school, Willowbrook Public School was the 87th school built in York Region.
In a contest for a mascot, the dragon, as drawn by student, Hrvoje C, was chosen. Our school has updated its picture of the Willowbrook Dragon every 5 years and our latest logo was created in 2020 by Stella W.
Facilities
Willowbrook P.S. was officially opened on Thursday, December 17, 1981. Built in 1981, the red brick, two-story school that backs onto parkland, serves over 250 students from kindergarten to grade 8. Since that time, and as a result of fluctuations in student enrolment, several single portable classrooms have been added and removed from the site. A four classroom demountable is attached to the south wing of the school. The building is wheelchair accessible with an elevator. Residential homes back on to our protected schoolyard. The schoolyard that includes a large paved area, basketball courts, fitness stations and a soccer field, is adjacent to Windy Hill Park.
The building is composed of classrooms, a Learning Resource Centre, a gymnasium with a stage, a music room, a modern computer lab in the Learning Resource Centre, special education rooms, community Autism class, caretaking facilities, a conference room and administrative offices. The YMCA operates a Before and After School Program.
Our school celebrated it's 40th anniversary in the spring of 2022!
